In the city where the magnificent Gokstad Viking ship was discovered, the past is vividly present, and new developments are constantly underway. Everything is in place for an exciting visit, offering insights into one of the most captivating areas of the Viking Age, in a town with a long history of seafaring, trade, and agriculture.
Your guide will meet you in the Viking Park, where you can witness the construction of a new Viking ship, a replica of The Gokstad ship. The journey continues into the forest, where you’ll experience the pure Norwegian wilderness, with visible traces of the Viking Age.
Forage and taste local ingredients, the same ones used by the Vikings. Around the campfire, you will be introduced to Hnefatafl—Viking chess. This simple strategy game is easy to learn for both young and old.
The tour starts in the Viking Park. (se directions here). It lasts approximately two hours and concludes at the same location. This outdoor experience is not accessible for wheelchair users. Dressing appropriately for the weather is recommended, and the tour is conducted in English.
